Why there are so many associations and what types exist
The automotive sector in Spain has different layers: manufacturers, importers, official dealership networks, independent used car dealers, workshops, technical professionals and related businesses. Each layer has its own needs for representation, services and dialogue with public authorities, which explains why there are so many organisations.
To find your way around, it helps to distinguish five different types:
The national, cross-sector employers' associations such as GANVAM bring together businesses from across the distribution chain: official dealerships, used car dealers, workshops and related businesses. They offer institutional representation, statistical data and general services.
The vehicle traders' associations such as ANCOVE are more focused on the dealer's day-to-day operations: contracts, statistics, insurance and operational tools.
The official network employers' associations such as Faconauto represent the brand dealership associations before manufacturers, public authorities and institutions. They are not the direct equivalent of an association of independent used car dealers.
The used-car specialist associations such as AEVO focus on professionalising and digitalising the used car ecosystem, with a broader approach than that of the individual dealer.
The regional associations such as AMDA, FECAVEM, AVADA or ASOCASIÓN operate at regional or provincial level and are especially valuable for dialogue with local authorities, regional regulations and local services.
Leading national associations for used car dealers
GANVAM is one of the sector's historic benchmarks. Founded in 1957, it describes itself as the longest-standing association for vehicle distribution and repair in Spain. It brings together around 7,500 businesses: official dealerships, agents, used car dealers, independent workshops and related businesses. Its member services include legal and regulatory advice, forms and contracts, statistical bulletins, used car valuations and professional tools. The fee published on its website is 371 euros a year. Official website: ganvam.es.
For an independent used car dealer, GANVAM is relevant if you're looking for a long-established organisation with institutional weight, sector data and advice. It isn't focused exclusively on independent dealers, but it includes them among those it represents.

ANCOVE (National Association of Vehicle Traders) was founded in 1989 and is especially geared towards professionals who buy and sell vehicles, both new and used. Its offer is operational: standardised contracts, new and used car statistics, multi-posting, floating insurance policies, advice and insurance. The published fee is 34.86 euros a month. Official website: ancove.es.
For a used car dealer, ANCOVE is the association whose offer is closest to day-to-day work. Its focus on vehicle traders makes it more directly applicable than a cross-sector employers' association.

Associations specialised in used vehicles
AEVO (Spanish Used Vehicle Association) takes an ecosystem approach: professionalisation, digital transformation, sustainability and representing the used car market before institutions. Those it represents include used car dealers, dealerships, platforms, workshops and independent used car professionals. Its positioning is broader than that of the individual dealer, with an emphasis on transforming the sector. Official website: aevo.org.es.
For a used car dealer who wants to be part of the debate on the future of used cars, digitalisation and market sustainability, AEVO has a specific positioning that general employers' associations don't cover in the same way.

Regional associations: the value of being close
Many of a used car dealer's issues are decided at regional or local level: urban mobility, low emission zones, regional grants, regional taxation, business licences and relations with the local authority. Regional associations are valuable precisely in this local dialogue.
AMDA works with distributors and dealerships in the Community of Madrid, focusing on dialogue with regional and municipal authorities, sector agreements and services for its members. Website: amda.es.
FECAVEM represents vehicle traders in Catalonia. It publishes data on the Catalan market and offers valuation tools, training and support for regional sector initiatives. Website: fecavem.com.
AVADA, part of FEMEVAL, combines sector activity with training, events, legislative information and services for automotive distributors in the Valencian Community. Website: femeval.es.
ASOCASIÓN Andalusia, part of the FEDEME group, brings together used car business owners in Andalusia and offers legal, employment and financial services, training and events. Website: fedeme.es.
ASEPA (Spanish Association of Automotive Professionals) has a different profile: it is aimed at professionals, technicians, researchers and companies working in the automotive field from a more educational, knowledge-based perspective. Website: asepa.es.
Plataforma del Motor presents itself as a national association of traders and professionals in the sector, with a focus on community and business collaboration between operators. Its profile is closer to that of the independent operator than a large institutional employers' association. Website: plataformadelmotor.es.
Associations by brand: what they are actually for
Brand dealership associations bring together business owners who share a manufacturer, contracts, network standards and common issues with the importer. They are not the equivalent of an association of independent used car dealers: their role is very specific: giving a common voice to the dealerships in the same network.
Faconauto currently includes the associations for Renault (ANCR), Volvo, SEAT (ANCOSAT), Volkswagen/Audi/Škoda (ACEVAS), Ford (ACOFORD), Nissan (ACONISSAN), Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, BMW-MINI, Suzuki, Fiat (ANEFA), OMODA & JAECOO (ANCOJ) and commercial vehicle networks. In 2026, the creation of AECS unified the representation of Stellantis dealerships (Peugeot, Citroën, Opel, DS, Leapmotor and other group brands).
For an independent multi-brand used car dealer, these associations aren't the natural fit. For an official dealership of a specific brand, they are the dedicated channel of representation before the manufacturer. If you want to dig deeper, see the guide to dealer associations by brand in Spain.

What to look at before joining
Comparing names and fees isn't enough. There are five questions worth answering before you decide:
Who the organisation really represents. An employers' association that brings together 7,500 businesses from across the sector has different interests from an association focused exclusively on independent used car dealers.
Which services are exclusive to members and which can be accessed in other ways. Some services in an association's offer (statistical data, standard contracts, valuation tools) are available through other channels without paying a fee.
What real influence it has with public authorities, manufacturers or institutions, especially on the issues that most affect your business: used car taxation, warranties, LEZs, stock financing.
What scope it covers: national, regional, brand or used-car specific. If the business's main issues are local (licences, municipal regulations, a specific city's LEZ), a regional association may add more immediate value than a national employers' association.
Whether the cost of the fee is justified by actual use of the services. A used car dealer who won't take an active part in the association or use its tools regularly may not get the expected return on the fee.
It's perfectly reasonable to take part in more than one space if each one adds different value. A used car dealer may need institutional representation through ANCOVE or GANVAM and, at the same time, access a community of independent dealers through AECOVI.
What to check before joining
Before deciding, review the membership category that applies to you, which services are included, which resources are restricted to members, and what actual use you will make of them. In an association, the value lies not just in "belonging", but in using the information, advice, and network.
AECOVI is the free community that Dealcar supports for professionals in the sector. A space where more than 300 used car dealers share real experiences, solve day-to-day questions and discover business opportunities with fellow professionals.

Frequently asked questions
Can I belong to more than one association at a time?
Yes. Organisations add different kinds of value: institutional representation, legal advice, operational tools, market data or a professional community. A used car dealer may need more than one depending on their priorities.
Which one is most focused on the independent multi-brand used car dealer?
ANCOVE clearly includes vehicle traders among those it represents and has the most operational offer for day-to-day work. GANVAM also includes them within a broader framework. AECOVI focuses its offer exclusively on this profile and offers free entry to a community of professionals.
Is Faconauto relevant for an independent used car dealer?
Not directly. Faconauto represents official brand dealership networks. For an independent multi-brand used car dealer, its work has an indirect impact (regulation, sector competitiveness) but it isn't the dedicated channel of representation for that profile.
Do regional associations compete with national ones?
No, they complement each other. A regional association works at the regional or local level where national ones have less presence: regional regulations, dialogue with autonomous communities and town councils, events and local networks.
