Frequently asked questions

If you are searching for "compramostucoche reviews" on Google, it is because you are considering selling them your car and want to know if it is a good idea. It is a legitimate question: you are about to hand over an asset worth thousands of pounds to a company you saw in an advert, and you want to make sure you are not going to get scammed.
The short answer: Compramostucoche is a legitimate company, with a physical presence in Spain and the backing of a multinational group. It is not a scam. But that does not mean it is the best option for all sellers. User reviews show a clear pattern of advantages and limitations that are worth knowing before making a decision.
In this article, we analyse real reviews from Compramostucoche users, based on data from Trustpilot, OCU and specialised forums, so that you can make an informed decision.
What is Compramostucoche and who is behind it
Compramostucoche.es is the car purchasing service for private individuals from Autohero, which in turn belongs to AUTO1 Group, a German group founded in 2012 by Christian Bertermann and Hakan Koç. AUTO1 Group is one of the largest used car trading platforms in Europe, listed on the Frankfurt stock exchange and operating in more than 30 countries.
In Spain, Compramostucoche has more than 70 branches spread across the country. It is, alongside Flexicar, one of the direct purchase companies with the largest physical presence in the country.
The business model is simple: they buy cars from private individuals below market value and resell them through their network of associated dealerships or directly to the public through Autohero. The margin between what they pay you and what they get upon resale is their source of income.
How the sales process works
The Compramostucoche process has three phases.
Phase 1: Online valuation. You enter your car's details on the website (make, model, year, mileage, condition). You receive a price estimate within a few minutes. This figure is indicative.
Phase 2: In-person valuation. If the price seems reasonable, you arrange an appointment at the nearest branch. An assessor inspects the car and makes you a final offer. It is at this point that the figure can change compared to the online valuation.
Phase 3: Acceptance and payment. If you accept, you sign the paperwork and Compramostucoche manages the payment (via bank transfer) and the change of ownership.
The process can be completed in 2-5 days under normal conditions, although, as we will see in the reviews, payment times are one of the most frequently mentioned points of friction.
Positive reviews: what users value
Positive reviews of Compramostucoche focus on three areas.
Speed of the process. Many users highlight that the transaction is closed in just a few days, especially compared to weeks or months spent selling on portals. For those who prioritises speed, this is the strong point.
Convenience. You do not have to publish adverts, you do not receive phone calls, you do not host viewings or negotiate with strangers. You go to the branch, they make you an offer and you decide. The process is packaged to minimise your effort.
Professional treatment at the branch. Reviews on Trustpilot frequently mention the good service from staff at the branches. The assessors are professional, explain the process and, in many cases, the face-to-face interaction builds trust.
Handling of paperwork. The company takes care of the change of ownership and the paperwork. The seller does not have to do anything after signing (in theory).
Negative reviews: the most frequent complaints
Negative reviews also focus on clear and repetitive patterns.
Difference between online valuation and final offer. This is the number one complaint. Many users report that the valuation they receive on the website is significantly higher than the offer made to them at the branch after the inspection. The difference can be hundreds or even thousands of pounds. The reasons given by the company are wear and tear, dents, mechanical issues or differences in condition compared to what was declared online. But many users feel that the high online valuation works as a hook to get you to the appointment, and once there, the pressure to accept the lower offer is strong.
Payment delays. This is a complaint that appears frequently both on Trustpilot and in OCU complaints. Some users report that, after handing over the car and signing, the payment takes longer than promised. The communicated timeframes keep changing (from 4 days to 7, from 7 to 10) and communicating with the company during the wait can be difficult.
Unannounced administration fees. Some users mention that upon arriving at the branch they are informed of administration fees that were not included in the online valuation. This causes frustration because the actual price is lower than what the seller expected.
Difficulty contacting after the sale. Several reviews mention problems contacting the company once the car has been handed over, especially when there are issues with the payment or paperwork.
Compramostucoche on Trustpilot and OCU: real data
Trustpilot. Compramostucoche.es has more than 20,000 reviews on Trustpilot with an average rating of 4 out of 5 stars. Most 5-star reviews highlight speed, good service and a simple process. The 1-2 star reviews focus on the price difference between valuation and offer, payment delays and poor after-sales customer service.
OCU. On the OCU complaints platform, recent complaints appear (April 2026) related to delays in payment after delivering the vehicle, a lack of communication during the process and difficulties resolving issues with the finance of the sold car.
It is important to put this into context: with more than 70 branches and thousands of transactions, it is to be expected that there will be a percentage of incidents. Most users have a satisfactory experience. But the recurring problems (price, payment, communication) indicate patterns that are worth keeping in mind.
The three most common problems
1. The online valuation is not what you will get paid
This is the most important point to understand before going to an appointment. The figure you see on the website is an algorithmic estimate based on generic data. The real offer comes after an assessor inspects your car in person. And in most cases, the real offer is lower than the online valuation.
This is not exclusive to Compramostucoche. All direct purchase companies work the same way. But it is good to know this so you do not go to the appointment with an expectation that is not met. If the online valuation gives you £12,000, go prepared to receive between £10,000 and £11,500. If that works for you, go ahead. If not, compare other options before accepting.
If you want to better understand why the valuation and the offer do not match, check out our article on online valuation vs real offer.
2. A single offer, without competition
When you sell to Compramostucoche, you receive a single price. There is no bidding, no alternative, no second buyer to push the price up. The offer is set by the company to maximise their margin, and you can only accept it or reject it.
This means that, by definition, the offer cannot be the best possible one. It is the best offer that Compramostucoche is willing to give you, not the best offer that exists on the market for your car. To know the difference, you need to compare it with other options.
Accepting a single offer without comparing is one of the most expensive mistakes when selling a car.
3. Payment is not always immediate
Although Compramostucoche promises fast payments, reviews show that timeframes can drag out. This is particularly problematic if the car has active finance, because while you wait to get paid, you still have the debt.
Before handing over the keys, make sure that the contract specifies a concrete payment timeframe and the conditions in case of delay.
When it makes sense to sell to Compramostucoche
Despite the limitations, there are situations in which Compramostucoche can be a reasonable option.
You need liquidity in a few days and have no alternative. If the urgency is real and you cannot wait, the speed of Compramostucoche has value. Accept that you are going to get paid less than through other channels and focus on closing quickly.
Your car has a low value and the difference doesn't offset searching for alternatives. If your car is worth £3,000, the difference between Compramostucoche's offer and what you could get elsewhere might be £200-£400. For some sellers, that difference does not justify the effort of comparing.
To know if the difference justifies comparing, you first need to know the real value. Check how to find out how much your car is worth.
You have a branch nearby and value face-to-face service. Some people prefer a face-to-face process with a professional in an office. If that is your case, Compramostucoche's branch network is an advantage.
In all other cases, it is worth comparing before accepting. And comparing costs nothing.

Alternatives to Compramostucoche
If you want to explore options before deciding, there are three paths.
Other direct purchase companies. Flexicar, Clicars, OcasionPlus. They work on the same model (one offer, no competition) and give similar prices. Requesting a quote from two or three gives you at least a baseline range. Check our article on alternatives to Compramostucoche for a detailed analysis.
An important nuance: Autohero is the retail brand of AUTO1, the same company. Asking for a valuation from Compramostucoche and Autohero does not give you two different offers. Autohero reviews explain why in detail.
Classified portals. Wallapop, Coches.net, Milanuncios. You publish and manage it yourself. More work but the possibility of a better price if you negotiate well. More time (weeks or months) and more risk.
If you prefer using portals, check out our guide to selling your car on Wallapop.
Platforms with dealer bidding. With Dealcar, you upload your car once and more than 1,000 verified dealerships compete for it. Offers arrive on average in less than 18 hours. As there is real competition, the price aligns with the market. On average, sellers get £1,400 more than by selling on Wallapop. You get paid via bank transfer before handing over the keys and the winning dealership collects the car from your home.
The key difference between Compramostucoche and Dealcar is structural: at Compramostucoche you receive an offer from a buyer who needs a margin. At Dealcar you receive multiple offers from buyers competing against each other. Competition is what drives the price up.
Dealcar: value your car for free and receive offers from dealerships
Dealcar provides you with a free valuation tool that estimates your car's value in less than 30 seconds. You enter the registration number and vehicle details, and you receive a valuation based on real, closed sales prices in the market.
From there, your car is presented to a network of more than 1,000 professional and verified dealerships who bid against each other to buy it. On average, the first offers arrive in less than 18 hours. You compare and keep the best one. If none convince you, you reject it without penalty.
100% free for you. No commissions or hidden costs.
You get paid before handing over the keys. Bank transfer before delivering the car.
They collect the car from your home. No trips to branches.
No paperwork. The buyer handles the transfer, DGT, and all the paperwork.
On average, 1,400 euros more than selling on Wallapop.
More than 12,000 cars sold and an average rating of 4.9 out of 5.
Frequently asked questions
Is Compramostucoche trustworthy?
Yes. It is a legitimate company, belonging to the German AUTO1 group (listed on the stock exchange), has more than 70 branches in Spain and more than 20,000 reviews on Trustpilot. It is not a scam. But being trustworthy does not mean it is the option that will give you the best price.
Why is Compramostucoche's offer lower than the online valuation?
Because the online valuation is an indicative estimate based on generic data. The real offer is adjusted after the in-person inspection, where details that the form does not capture (dents, wear and tear, tyre condition) are detected. In addition, the company needs a commercial margin to resell for a profit.
Can I negotiate the price with Compramostucoche?
The negotiation margin is very limited. The model is designed as a closed offer. If you are not convinced, your option is to reject it and look for alternatives.
How long does Compramostucoche take to pay?
According to the company, payment is made by bank transfer within a few days. According to user reviews, timeframes can drag out, especially on cars with finance or when there are paperwork issues. Make sure the contract includes a specific payment timeframe.
Is it worth comparing with Dealcar before accepting Compramostucoche?
Yes. Valuing your car on Dealcar is free and does not commit you to anything. If the offers from competing dealerships are better than Compramostucoche's (which is typical when there is bidding), you can sell through that route. If not, you can always go back to Compramostucoche. Comparing costs nothing, not comparing does.
