ACEVAS is the Association of Spanish Volkswagen, Audi and Škoda Dealers, and also includes Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. It is one of the brand associations with the most public information regarding its operations.
Origin and size
ACEVAS was established as an independent association in 2000. The organisation itself states that it comprises 120 associated companies representing around 300 dealerships across its brands.
What it does in practice
Its declared mission is to represent, manage, defend and promote the interests of associated dealerships. Its structure includes:
regional boards and representatives;
working committees;
technical office;
legal, tax, labour, accounting and IT advice;
general assembly;
liaison with the brands.
Regional meetings serve to gather concerns and put forward proposals. Committees allow specific issues to be worked on and brought to the attention of the brand.
National and European dimension
ACEVAS is part of Faconauto and also participates in the European Dealer Council for the Volkswagen/Audi/VW Commercial networks. This adds a European layer to the representation of the Spanish network.
It is a good example of a brand association that does not limit itself to "being present", but instead structures technical work and representation.
And what is its relationship with used vehicles?
Official dealerships also buy, trade-in, and sell used cars. Therefore, although the association primarily represents the relationship of the official network, many of its members have direct interests in used vehicles: valuation, stock, turnover, warranties, and remarketing.
For that part of the business, a useful read is how to reduce the turnover time of used vehicles.
What a dealership should review before assessing the association
Beyond the name, it is advisable to ask about:
governing bodies and working groups;
frequency of meetings;
advisory services;
relationship with the manufacturer;
participation in Faconauto;
access to information reserved for members.
The exact role may change over time, so the primary source should always be the association itself or Faconauto.
The relationship with AECOVI
AECOVI does not represent dealerships before a brand and, therefore, does not replace this association. Its role lies in another part of the business: used vehicles, digitalisation and peer learning. For a dealership with a used vehicle business, it can be useful to compare practices with operators from other networks and independent dealers, whilst keeping the brand association as a specific representation channel.
