Used car sales in Spain are experiencing a notable growth of 7.2% compared with the previous year.

The Spanish automotive sector has seen a significant boost in the first half of 2024, with a total of 1,015,612 used vehicles sold. This figure, provided by the National Association of Motor Vehicle Sellers, Repair and Spare Parts (Ganvam) and the Federation of Automotive Dealer Associations (Faconauto), represents a 7.2% increase compared with the same period last year, thus surpassing one million units sold.

Fleet renewal by rental companies and leasing firms has been a key factor in this growth. Rental companies increased their used-vehicle operations by 24.5%, while leasing operators recorded a 19.3% rise. This strategy has made it possible to supply the market with a stock of younger vehicles, much in demand for their excellent value for money. In this context, the use of efficient automotive management software becomes crucial for optimising operations in this booming sector.

Nearly new models, those aged between one and three years, have seen a spectacular 34% increase up to June, reaching 81,100 units sold. This segment has become a real driver of demand, offering buyers almost new vehicles at more affordable prices. On the other hand, vehicles aged between 10 and 15 years saw a fall of more than 9% up to June, standing at 163,762 units sold, which suggests a shift in consumer preferences towards newer and more efficient vehicles.

Raúl Palacios, president of Ganvam, has said: "The strong performance of the nearly new vehicle is proving its crucial role as a lever for rejuvenating the Spanish car fleet". For its part, Faconauto has said that "this trend reflects the strength of the used-vehicle market and its ability to adapt to the needs and budgets of Spanish consumers".

In contrast to the decline in sales of new electric and hybrid vehicles, the used market for these models has shown double-digit growth. Sales of second-hand pure electric cars rose by almost 60%, while used plug-in hybrids grew by 90%. These figures demonstrate consumers' growing interest in more sustainable options in the used-vehicle market.

It is noteworthy that, so far this year, 1.9 used vehicles have been sold for every new vehicle. This ratio reflects the strength of the used-vehicle market and underlines the importance of having efficient automotive CRM software to manage this growing sales volume and maintain strong relationships with customers in an increasingly dynamic market.
